Our research revealed access barriers, complexity and lack of conformity issues that exists in the traditional PEO proposal process. Our goal is to close this gap through fresh and inventive technology. Our Innovation Team created a web-based platform and scoring process resulting in a seamless and secure method to connect PEOs with insurance brokers and employers across the nation. A message from our CEO and Founder, Kara Parker
I once read: “Innovation is the process of creating something new that makes life better. Innovation is impossible without passion. Innovators see the world differently. We see the world as it should be as opposed to seeing the world as it is.” I find great truth and inspiration in these words.
People often ask me what I do for a living and inevitably recoil when I respond that “I am a lawyer.” Perceptions of lawyers can be one dimensional and often suspect. The title does not tell the whole story regarding my professional aspirations. Over the years I fine-tuned my response to “I am a lawyer with an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit.” Thankfully, my professional persona found the perfect balance.
My initial experience with the PEO connection process came from my position as general counsel. The company I worked for wanted to lower its healthcare costs and the PEO option was presented to us by our insurance broker. After I learned about the advantages of co-employment with PEOs, I reached out to friends and colleagues to learn of their experiences with PEOs. I discovered that many people did not understand what PEOs do, they did not know how to find a PEO or they experienced an arduous connection process. I came to see this "gap" as an opportunity to transform the PEO connection process and enrich lives through smart technology.
And so, PEO SCORE’s journey began as a startup with a passion to disrupt the way employers and insurance brokers connected with PEOs. We recognized that the PEO connection process needed a reboot, and our visionary Innovation Team made it as it should be…automated, direct and cost effective.
Experience, Honors & Leadership
Prior to founding PEO SCORE, Kara practiced law over the course of several decades primarily as general counsel for national companies. She also founded and managed a successful real estate company. As a business owner and attorney for multiple employers, Kara worked closely with executive management teams and HR departments to address the rising costs of employee benefits, employee retention issues, compliance management and payroll administration matters. In 2017, Kara retired as legal counsel to bring the PEO SCORE concept to life.
Kara is a JD graduate of the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and earned a degree with highest honors in Political Science from the University of California, Davis. She holds a California real estate brokers license, has been recognized as Best of the Bar by the Sacramento Business Journal and Masters Club Life Member by the Sacramento Association of Realtors. She serves on several Boards, including the Friends of the Crisis Nurseries and the Loyola Guild of Jesuit High School, and is an active member of the 100+ Women Who Care.
